Summary: Notre Dame won its first-ever outright Big East Regular Season title as they wore down the Huskies in front of 15,132 fans in Hartford and defeated UConn for the 3rd-straight time, 72-59. In what was a hard-fought, back and forth game for the first 30mins. turned into a mini-blowout in the end as UConn ran out of steam going up againt a very experienced and posied senior-laddened Fighting Irish squad. Notre Dame was led by their All-American duo of Skylar Diggins (20) and Natalie Novosel (21), while UConn was led by their former All-American candidate duo of Tiffany Hayes (22) and Stefanie Dolson (18). UConn finished tied with St. John's for 2nd in the final 2011-12 Big East standings, but will be the 3-seed in the upcoming 2012 Big East Tournament due to its lose to St. John's in their head-to-head match-up. They will play on Sunday, March 4th at 8:30pm on ESPNU against the winner of the 6-seed Rutgers/11-seed Cincinnati/14-seed Marquette bracket.
