Husky First!!!
UConn's Senior All American Renee Montgomery was honored prior to today's Pittsburgh game with a ceremony inducting her into the Huskies of Honor. This makes her the very first Husky ever to be honored as an active player. Geno suprised her with the honor which included a suprise visit from her family, but not without the help of her team/roommate Kalana Greene who helped pull of the event by keeping the secret for 3 weeks as well as gathering tickets for Renee's family (behind her back). Renee seemed very overwhelmed by the honor and followed it up with a superb game performance (20pts., 3rebs., 1ast, 1TO, & 2stls on 6 for 11FG, 2 for 5 3FG, and 6 for 8 FT in 31mins.). She is already 7th in all-time scoring, 5th in 3pt FGs, 10th in steals, and 4th in assists and is only the third player in UConn history with at least 1,500 points and 500 assists (Rizzotti and Taurasi) and is the third (Abrosimova and Ralph) to be ranked in the Top 10 in scoring, assists and steals. Today she started 134th straight game and 127th straight in conference play (both are the longest active streaks in the nation).
Note: All that is missing is an NCAA title. (All I will add is that I would NOT want any other player in the country come tournament time because I have a gut feeling that she is going to take her game to an entirely new level and will NOT be denied again!!!)
