UConn's All American Trio of Montgomery, Charles, and Moore headline the list of the Top 30 Midseason Candidates for the 2008-09 Naismith Women's College National Player of the Year trophy. This year's 2009 winner will be announced at the NCAA Women’s Final Four in St. Louis.
For the sixth consecutive season, presenting sponsor AT&T will once again set the standard in allowing fans to participate in determining this year’s winner. Through the power and ease of text messaging, fan voting will account for an unprecedented 25 percent of the final results — more than any other national college basketball award. This year, beginning March 22, AT&T wireless customers — and sports fans on other wireless networks — will be able to text their votes for the player of their choice. Fans will be eligible to cast their vote for the winner until 9 p.m. EDT on Saturday, April 4. AT&T is making the voting open to other wireless carriers, allowing even more fans to participate. Other wireless carriers must opt-in for their subscribers to participate.

Awesome News out of Storrs!!!
UConn Academic Senior SF Kalana Greene has decided to return to the Huskies next year for her 4th (senior) year of athletic eligiblity. She received a medical hardship after injuring her knee in December 2007, but had been uncertain whether she would take advantage of it until earlier this week when she told Head Coach Geno Auriemma of her decision to stay. Since she will be returning next year, she will not be taking part in Senior Night festivities next week with her original fellow class members Renee Montgomery, Cassie Kerns, and Tahirah Williams.

Husky First!!!
UConn's Senior All American Renee Montgomery was honored prior to today's Pittsburgh game with a ceremony inducting her into the Huskies of Honor. This makes her the very first Husky ever to be honored as an active player. Geno suprised her with the honor which included a suprise visit from her family, but not without the help of her team/roommate Kalana Greene who helped pull of the event by keeping the secret for 3 weeks as well as gathering tickets for Renee's family (behind her back). Renee seemed very overwhelmed by the honor and followed it up with a superb game performance (20pts., 3rebs., 1ast, 1TO, & 2stls on 6 for 11FG, 2 for 5 3FG, and 6 for 8 FT in 31mins.). She is already 7th in all-time scoring, 5th in 3pt FGs, 10th in steals, and 4th in assists and is only the third player in UConn history with at least 1,500 points and 500 assists (Rizzotti and Taurasi) and is the third (Abrosimova and Ralph) to be ranked in the Top 10 in scoring, assists and steals. Today she started 134th straight game and 127th straight in conference play (both are the longest active streaks in the nation).
Note: All that is missing is an NCAA title. (All I will add is that I would NOT want any other player in the country come tournament time because I have a gut feeling that she is going to take her game to an entirely new level and will NOT be denied again!!!)

UConn Sr. PG Renee Montgomery was named one of ten finalists for the 2008-09 Lowe's Senior Class Women's Basketball Award. The award is based on an evaluation of their performance: in the classroom, of their character, during competition, and in the community. 1/3 of the ballot comes from fan voting and 2/3 of the ballot comes from NCAA Division I coaches and national media memebers voting.
**Fans can vote for up to 3 players, but may I suggest to you UConn fans that you ONLY cast a vote for Renee because then you are just helping two other players for no reason and perhaps lessening Renee's chances on winning the fan vote portion.
